National Highways
Suzi & Ortis Road Safety Films
Presented road safety films for National Highways, made with Story Comms and fronted by Suzi Perry and Ortis Deley.
Safety advice without the lecture.
The Challenge
Working with National Highways and Story Comms, we helped turn important motorway safety advice into something much more engaging than a traditional information film. Presented by Suzi Perry and Ortis Deley, the project followed the pair on a smart motorway road trip, using their natural chemistry, humour and real-life conversation to explore how smart motorways work and what drivers need to know to use them safely. The film covered everything from Red X signs, emergency areas and variable speed limits to breakdowns, journey planning and safer driving.
The Method
We used two relatable presenters to turn technical road safety guidance into something more engaging, accessible and human.
The production combined real-world filming on the road with visits to control-room staff and traffic officers, alongside animation and voiceover to explain some of the more technical safety features clearly and accessibly without putting our presenters in danger whilst travelling on a motorway! The original brief called for content that was simple, instructive and capable of changing behaviour, while also being flexible enough to work across web, social media and stakeholder communications.
What We Delivered
A national campaign launched in January 2022, with Suzi and Ortis fronting practical films and clips explaining smart motorway features and safer driving. The content was used across National Highways’ website and social channels, turning a complex and serious subject into clear, approachable advice for road users.
